Haiti Food Crisis June 2008 Haiti is facing a major food crisis as riots break out in the capital Port-au-Prince. Five people have died, the Prime Minister was forced to resign and authorities fear the worst is yet to come! All produce, even eggs, are imported here, leaving Haiti at the hands of the global market. Although blessed with fertile land, farmers have no machinery and are forced to use their hands. A farmer says "we cannot compete with other farmers who have the technology to back them". People are even eating mud cookies to relieve hunger. The Haitian government have turned to International crisis funds for immediate food relief but what will happen in the long run?
